Kody McConnell

Statement:

My name is Kody Joseph McConnell. I was born near Oberlin, Ohio near the southern shore of Lake Erie and graduated from High School in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a suburb of the City of Pittsburgh. After briefly attending the University of Pittsburgh my family decided to move to Port Townsend, Washington in the spring of 2004. My father, younger sister, and I have lived here ever since.

This is my senior year with Washington State University's Distance Degree Programs as a social science major with a formal minor in management information systems. My experience with WSU-DPP has exceeding my expectations, and I have been thoroughly impressed by the faculty, professional staff, fellow students, and the student leadership. That said, I still can't wait to finish this spring and move on to a graduate school masters program in public administration.

For the last three years I have been employed by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as a legal assistant/paralegal. In this capacity I have helped manage the litigation of many criminal and civil cases as well as helped coordinate various other aspects of local government operations.

When I find the time to relax, my favorite things to do are hike in the mountains with my German Shepherd Dog, read all kinds of books, discover new forms of ambient space music (the "Hang" percussion instrument for example), explore world history, religions, and culture, and care for my small vegetable garden, flower garden, and orchard, or otherwise entertain myself with the menagerie of chickens, cats, bats, and additional assorted woodland creatures that live on my property.

I really look forward to helping ASWSU-DDP advocate for the needs of fellow non-traditional students in the Distance Degree Programs on behalf of the student government leadership, as well as pursuing constructive collaboration between student government associations to make sure our concerns are addressed by state policy makers.
